My group began this round of presentations, we chose the topic of environmental and public safety with a subtopic into the economy and how they correlate with each other. I think that my group gave an overall solid presentation. We decided to add in more visual effects this time around to make the presentation a bit more engaging. I liked how my group kept the same structure throughout our presentation yet kept everyone's individual touch to it. We covered many different aspects of our environment from laws that have been passed to what we should be asking our selves to do better in the future. We also went in depth with public safety in the U.S and abroad and how they both approached it in their own way. To wrap up the presentation we combined all three topics that we had and spoke on how the economy affects what environmental and safety issues that we take as a country. We also included an interview with a good friend of Trinitys who's going into law enforcement and asked him a few key questions to which he gave his opinion on and also included a ted talk about public safety and what we could as a community due to make our streets safer by relying on each other.
Group 3 then followed and began with a discussion on civic engagement and civic education and how this affects our and also how it affects other countries. Their presentation sounded calm and flowed well showing that they knew what they were presenting with confidence. They showed us an interview of a ELA chair educator who gave her thoughts and perspective on our school system and how families aren't as involved as they should be showing that parents need to shift more focus onto their kids educational path. then they followed with an interview with one of our classmates parent who's a teacher and she gave her perspective on why education matters. I like that they pulled into the everyday educators within our community who handle and see many of the ins and outs of the educational system and getting their view on it. great job group 3 with the interviews! They also gave us a brief view into the background of the history behind education and the organizations that monitor and guide our educational system. I also liked that there brochure had so much information it looked like something you would see in a state park. and they had funny videos that made the presentation even more entertaining.
Group 2 then followed with women's education and spoked on how sometimes its not prioritized and gave examples. They also spoke about countries that don't support women's education and why. while on that topic they also spoke about the marriage customs being a factor to why women don't get their education which to me was a crazy concept but I understood how they would arrive at that point when they later spoke about it more in depth. They then showed a video of a girl who had to leave school in oder to help her grandpa and it really gave a visual to how there are so many situations that can affect a women's education and resources being a big one of those. they then spoke on how education helps shape families and gave the American perspective on how we view education. After that they gave examples of how other countries connect with families and educators to provide a positive learning environment. we later saw a list of organizations and places that help with educational resources and then lead into a video of a dad here in the U.S who received support from his daughters school and was able to be a more central part of his community.
Group 1 wrapped up our presentations with the topic of immigrations and its importance to society. They began by explaining why immigrants are portent to our society and lead into why people have to immigrate out of their countries. They went into more detail giving positive and negative reasons as to why people leave their country showing that it's not only a negative reason there could be a more positive aspect to immigration. After that they moved onto how immigrations has helped shape the U.S economy and gave examples of different aspects like labor force, new ideas and new markets to explore. They then spoke about the negative and positive effects of economic growth through immigration. Policies and outlooks were the next part that showed what we have in place to handle immigration from other countries and then saw a video showing the pros and cons to having immigrants. After that they spoke about how immigrants shape our communities, schools and contribute to diversity and exposure to different cultures and ways of life. They gave the example of Florida and how we are mostly latin country based and how that shapes our communities here. We later see some laws we have in place and how it affects immigration to the U.S and how our border patrol plays a role in that. After that they compared the U.S immigration system to that of Canadas and showed how we have different approaches. They also showed different incentives that countries have to attract people from other countries. Which, side note: I thought was really interesting and will be looking into! They then wrapped up with what could learn from other countries and gave examples. Overall a very in-depth view into immigration not only here but in other countries!
After seeing all the groups present I can see that we are all getting more comfortable with our presentations and how we approach gathering the knowledge we need for them. I can wait for the persuasive presentations!
Special shoutout to Professor Sinkoff, Brianna and Carolina who have helped me and my group throughout the creation of our presentations!
